JBDaPilot – “Hometown Girl”

By Kaitlin

JBdaPilot takes a leaf out of Destiny’s Child’s book, sampling their 1999 hit “Say My Name,” reworking it into his own 2016 version with “Hometown Girl.” The C. Justice and Lex Q-produced track finds the Virginia Beach, VA native narrating a proverbial love story of college romance. The record is inspired by his own personal experiences, with JBdaPilot detailing what-if’s about his girl’s whereabouts all the way to him making a cheating admission. The melodic fifty-fifty sing-rap provides the perfect medium for the college kid to dish on his relationship distresses.

Jonny Hopkins – “Lord of the Dabs”

By Kaitlin

Hailing from Hollywood, Florida, stoner rapper and marijuana legalization advocate, Jonny Hopkins, drops off his Lord Of The Dabs mixtape. The project’s title is a byproduct of the popular stoner culture practice, the act of dabbing–a process in which smokers inhale the purest concentrate of THC. Crowning himself the DabLord, Jonny Hopkins laces fans with 13 tracks of burn-friendly jams as well as awareness anthems, an attempt to change public attitudes towards the much-talked-about social issue. Jonny hopes to shed light on the positive benefits of marijuana and its many uses like medicine, paper, fuel, lotion, food, fiber, and more. By the conclusion of the tape’s outro, “Legalize It,” listeners will be left with an urge to get out and vote for the green leaf to become legal. In addition to Soundcloud, the project is also available for free download here!

Trip Phontaine – “Mike Jack” [Video]

By Kaitlin

Dallas-bred but now making waves in the underground Los Angeles rap scene, once you hear Trip Phontaine, you’ll completely understand why. You can hear his Texas hip-hop influences have blended in perfectly with the west coast lifestyle he has been living.

Trip recorded his new single to his next project AUDIOTRIP$ “Mike Jack” in Corey Feldman’s studio (long time friend of Michael’s as well as 90’s movie star) after seeing all of Jackson’s replica jackets used as decoration in Corey’s house.

In honor of Michael Jackson, Trip is releasing the video for “Mike Jack” on the week of the seventh anniversary of Michael’s death. Check it out here.

AUDIOTRIP$ is set to release this summer. Keep an eye out.
